Normally I am not the kind of person to go to a mainstream festive event, but I am such a sucker for Christmas lights that when ads for the Edinburgh’s Botanic Christmas event started popping up on my feed, I knew I had to go.
Christmas at the Botanic ran from November 22nd, and will be running till December 29th. Tickets are available from 4:40pm till 8pm (with a ticket available every 20 minutes), while the garden is open till 10pm. Though this guilty pleasure cost me 17 pounds per ticket, it was worth every penny!
Me and my partner put on some warm clothes, as it was an evening outdoors event in late December in Edinburgh (which is quite chilly even in early September at noon). Luckily, it was one of the least cold days of the month. We took the bus, and ended up just outside of the East gate.
We could tell right away that it is going to be quite a spectacle. Christmas tunes were playing and the entire place was illuminated. Everything was very well organized – apart from the staff that was helpful, there was only one path you could walk through, and it took us through the gardens, so that it was pretty much impossible to get lost.
The lights themselves were so beautiful, and as they are quite impossible to describe, I might just let the pictures do the talking. Obviously, I also can’t capture the festive atmosphere in words, but it was really fun and beautiful.
Wishing you all a happy, illuminated, Christams!
