Century General Store – Edinburgh

This little cafe and store is honestly so cute that simply seeing a picture of it makes you want to visit it. This is exactly what happened to me when I saw it on Instagarm, I just knew I had to go check it out for myself. I didn’t really know what to expect, as I was unsure about the name. I almost expected to find a cafe inside of a huge Walmart like shop, but what I found was quite different.

Century General Store is one of the coziest places I have ever seen. The shop sells all sort of house-ware, plants, jewelry and other decorative items. When you enter you see a big blue counter on the right, where you can order, with the merchandise located to the left. The floor is wooden and there is a colorful Persian rug at the center of the space, giving it a very homey feel. There are quite a few wooden tables spread across the room (though it gets quite busy during the weekend).

What I also really appreciate about this place is that it caters for its vegan friends. You can get a vegan sandwich, soup, or choose from a variety of different cakes. Everything I had was delicious, and my absolute favorite is the date loaf. The coffee that comes with is really good too! Other pros to this places are the fact that the staff is really friendly and helpful. It is laptop friendly as well, and the Wi-Fi is reliable. On weekdays it is pretty quiet, so it’s a good place for freelancers.

Century General Store is definitely a neighborly cafe. The fact that it is located in Abbeyhill, not quite in the city center, makes it a really nice getaway from the more crowded areas. The building is cute, with an English country vibe to it, and on the top floor there is also a yoga studio (Leith Yoga), if you wish to combine some coffee and yoga (though the yoga studio is run separately). I would very much recommend to give them a visit between 7:30am-4pm on weekdays, or between 9am-5pm on weekends. Lovely vibes guaranteed 😉
